If you’re interested in a satirical rundown of current events and everything major that’s happened in the world over the last 30 years, South Park offers a no-holds-barred, loud, crude, and surprisingly educational recap of modern history, from presidential elections to global pandemics. The series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone began from a small idea inspired by two short films the duo made in 1992 and 1995. After the second short went on to become one of the first ever videos to go viral, they began developing the characters and story for television, which premiered all the way back in 1997.

Known for its trademark shock value, offensive jokes, and cutout animation style, the series has been a pop-culture phenomenon since the get-go. With over 328 episodes, countless specials, and even a feature length film to its name, there’s a lot of South Park to dig through, which can get overwhelming. Here’s how to watch all South Park movies and TV Shows in release order:

South Park (1997-present)

Whether you’re new to South Park or rewatching it for the millionth time, the South Park television series is the ideal starting point. The series follows four foul mouthed grade schoolers—Kyle, Stan, Eric, and Kenny—as they navigate absurd adventures and skewer everything from pop culture to politics in the quiet mountain town of South Park, Colorado. The initial seasons feature more standalone episodes, but as the show progresses, they begin to introduce longer storylines and recurring character gags like Kenny’s repeated deaths, making a chronological watch the best way to experience it all.

South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut (1999)

The first and surprisingly only feature length theatrical film in the series came two years after South Park debuted on television. In typical South Park fashion, South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut follows mass chaos initiated by something the boys have done. Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny sneak into the cinema to watch an R-rated movie starring their favourite comedians, Terrance and Phillip. After watching it, they start repeating the film’s obscene language, infuriating the adults of South Park and setting off a ridiculous chain of events that ends with the United States declaring war on Canada for corrupting their youth. The film is structured like a musical, featuring an impressive and hilarious soundtrack, including the song Blame Canada, which was nominated for Best Original Song at the 72nd Academy Awards.

South Park: Post COVID (2021)

South Park: Post Covid was released in November 2021 as part of the show’s exclusive deal with Paramount+. It was the first in a series of longer-form specials created specifically for streaming audiences. The special jumps decades into the future, presenting a dystopian world where the boys are now adults living in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The story begins with Stan returning to South Park following the mysterious death of Kenny, who had grown up to become a renowned scientist. Before his death, Kenny had been investigating the origins of COVID-19. After learning of his passing, his childhood friends Stan, Kyle, and Cartman reunite to uncover the truth behind his death and try to prevent another pandemic from happening.

South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID (2021)

South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID picks up exactly where the first special left off. After discovering the true reason behind Kenny’s death, the boys realise that the only way to stop another pandemic and fix the world from the dystopian mess they grew up in is by travelling back in time and stopping the pandemic from ever happening. The sequel was less of a breakout moment compared to the original COVID special, but it’s still well received by longtime fans of the franchise.

South Park The Streaming Wars (2022)

South Park The Streaming Wars is part one of another two-part special released as part of the show’s exclusive deal with Paramount+. In part one, the town is experiencing an extreme water drought, and Stan’s father, Randy Marsh, uses this as an opportunity to sell streaming rights to different parties, not media rights, but actual streams of excess water flowing through his property. The town kids, including Stan, Kyle, and Tolkien, begin making content on the streams by building literal paper boats. Meanwhile, Cartman, who now lives in a hotdog stand with his mother, tries to hatch a plan to buy a house, which absurdly includes convincing his mother to get breast implants so she can attract a wealthy husband. The whole special plays out as a satirical metaphor on water rights, exploitation of resources, climate change, corporate greed, the oversaturation of content platforms, and the housing crisis.

South Park The Streaming Wars Part 2 (2022)

Things take a catastrophically darker turn in South Park The Streaming Wars Part 2. The battle over water rights intensifies as Colorado’s water supply faces the threat of total collapse. Randy’s schemes begin to backfire, and a group of shadowy billionaires swoop in, attempting to consolidate control over the entire supply. Meanwhile, Cartman’s fixation on getting his mother surgery drives him off the rails, culminating in a chaotic finale to the two-part special.

South Park: Joining the Panderverse (2023)

South Park: Joining the Panderverse is one of the most overtly meta entries in the South Park Universe. The special centres around Eric Cartman, who begins having dreams about an alternate universe where all the characters have been gender and race-swapped to fit a studio-approved checklist for inclusion. As the story progresses, the multiverses collide, causing mass mayhem and leading to intervention by a literal AI known as the Panderstone. The episode is a sharp jab at Hollywood’s current obsession with inclusion algorithms and the mind-numbing overuse of multiverse plots.

South Park (Not Suitable For Children) (2023)

Keeping in line with the other specials, South Park (Not Suitable For Children) blends current cultural debates with absurd humour, this time tackling the world of OnlyFans, parental censorship, and the lines between private choices and public outrage. The story follows a teacher at South Park Elementary who is fired after being ousted for having an OnlyFans account. Her firing serves as the catalyst for a town wide debate over workplace double standards, online privacy, morality, and the growing normalisation and controversy surrounding digital sex work. The debate spirals into a typical South Park style meltdown, with characters like Randy Marsh trying to insert themselves into the situation in absurd ways.

South Park: The End of Obesity (2024)

South Park: The End of Obesity tackles, as the name suggests, America’s growing obsession with weight loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. The episode focuses on Cartman’s newfound obsession with losing weight, but his frustration grows as he realises he cannot afford the medication while watching all his classmates slim down around him. Meanwhile, the town becomes increasingly swept up in the craze, highlighting the inequalities of the American healthcare system and society’s fixation on quick fixes. Cartman’s ridiculous attempts to get the drug, including finding insurance loopholes, faking illnesses, and manipulating doctors, make for an entertaining and sharply satirical watch.
